What is a Postpartum Coach?A Postpartum Coach is a highly trained and effective professional who serves as a Mama’s guide, cheerleader, and empowerment partner while maneuvering through the unknown and unique experiences during the postpartum period. Every postpartum journey is an individual experience. A Postpartum Coach focuses on the overall wellness of Mama, preparing and equipping her with the skills and tools to successfully transition to life after baby. Specific target areas include change and adjustment, role identification and balance, strengths, boundaries, identity (old vs. new / pre-baby vs. post baby), body and mind changes, mental health, self-care, vision and purpose, navigating work and motherhood, coping with traumatic birth experiences, overwhelming feelings, and improving relationship/marriage.
-
How is Postpartum defined?Postpartum Support International (PSI) defines postpartum as the first year after giving birth; however, we view things a little differently. Revive 3.23 believes that postpartum is not limited to the first year after birth; we believe postpartum that postpartum is the first four years after giving birth. The newborn, infant, and toddler stages of life requires continued adjustment for Mama as she works to rediscover and accept her new identity while managing her role as Mama and adjusting to her child(ren)’s developmental transitions.
-
Can I bring my baby to therapy? We desire for this time to be a safe place just for you; however, we understand that some mamas have no choice but to have their babies accompany them to their sessions. You will never be turned away nor shamed for having to bring your babies. If I see a therapist for Postpartum Depression (PPD), will they take my baby away? Therapists are mandated reporters. If it is believed that you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself and/or someone else, confidentiality might need to be broken to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Having intrusive thoughts is not the same as having an active plan, intent, or means. The reality is that most mamas experience intrusive thoughts; however, most do not have the desire to act on them, unless they are struggling with severe psychosis. As your therapist / coach, my job is to support, guide, and encourage you during this time. You will never be punished or judged for your feelings.
